PVRD Defeats Diamond City04/21/2008
PVRD: Western Mass Destruction - 61
Diamond City Scream Queens - 53
PVRD: Dirty Dozen - 87
Diamond City Death Kings - 50
On Saturday April 19th, 2008 Pioneer Valley Roller Derby's men and women's teams faced off against the men and women from Diamond City. The bout featured an alternating series of periods, with the guys playing the 1st and 3rd and the ladies playing the 2nd and 4th.
Dirty Dozen:
Diamond City Death Kings' Barry Yerdead put the first points on the
board during the opening jam, outscoring Davy Jones 6-4. But Dirty
Dozen's fresh blood, Jurasskick Park avenged Jones with a 17-4 jam over
Body Count. PVRD's Dirty Dozen would hang onto this lead for the rest
of the bout.
The Dirty Dozen's other jammers: Dr. Spankenstein, The Rev and Bazooka
Joe helped put up an additional 27 points before the half. DCDK's Gym
Class Hero, Barry Yerdead and Body Count fought against the Dozen's
tight defense but were only able to add another 9 points, ending the
half with a score of Dirty Dozen 48, Death Kings 19.
Halftime allowed the Death Kings to regroup and reflect on how to beat
the Dirty Dozen. Again the Death Kings started strong with Gym Class
Hero putting up 8 points to Dr. Spankenstein's 4. Body Count led an
assault with the help of DCDK's blockers - The Shocker, Nick Necro, JJ
Sandford, Big Daddy and SXE Revenge to level Dirty Dozen's jammers. The
Dirty Dozen's blockers, The Rev, Rollin Redshirt, Crash Daily, and
Calico Jack Wreckem successfully countered the attack by forcing
penalties on the Death Kings' blockers and jammers.
Both teams skated with short benches. Dirty Dozen brought 8 players, and
the Death Kings brought 9. This bout was a testament to endurance and
will. The Death Kings fought hard for their first full 40 minute bout and PVRD is looking forward to skating with them again soon.
Western Mass Destruction:
The ladies' bout began innocently enough with both teams vying for the lead. The Scream Queens had a strong start with Tara Ism and V-Diva racking up the points to hold a 8-5 lead in the first two jams.
Throughout the first period, WMD's Piss 'n Mona, Pittstop, Andy Nihilate and Pixie Scabs consistently threw points on the board. WMD's blocking game, led by Holy Hellga, Pixie Scabs, Big Vinny's Kid and Juggernaut Bitch held back the Scream Queens from scoring more than 7 points during the next 8 jams.
Toward the end of the first period, Piss 'n Mona secured WMD's lead with a 10-0 jam. In the final jam, Diamond City's Elektra Violence closed the gap with an 8-4 jam over Andy Nihilate. The score at the end of the half was WMD: 33, DCSQ: 25.
As the second period began, the Scream Queens quickly threw points on the board, closing WMD's lead to only 5. Ballistic Miss L of WMD and DCSQ's Kristella DeVille and Action Jackson put points on the board for their respective teams. Bloodbath and Beyond, Hellen Bed, and Chickadee Struction pulled up the rear of WMD's blocking game in order to keep the Scream Queens' defense in line. The Scream Queens' Evol Kitty dropped serious defense on the WMD's
blockers & jammers throughout the game and helped her team keep the
score tight.
WMD would hang onto the lead throughout the second period as jammers Piss 'n Mona and Pittstop pulled out the fancy maneuvers and passed the jam star to Nora Morse. Nora's 7 and 9 point jams during the second period helped WMD clinch the victory.
