DNN Boutcast of July's Double Header
Watch Pioneer Valley Roller Derby throught the Universe
07/24/2010
In conjunction with Derby News Network (DNN), the voice on roller derby throughout the known universe, Pioneer Valley Roller Derby is proud to introduce its own internet bout production crew with help from the likes of Power Jammer's Pelvis Costello and long time mens derby announcer, statistics collector and supporter, KD Caustic.
Read the rants of PVRD's own Beast Infection and (hopefully) watch us stream this exciting double header live, direct to you, wherever you are this Saturday.
Both bouts are of derby importance. The Dirty Dozen/New York Shock Exchange grudge match is fabled throughout mens derby. For the Western Mass Destruction, it will be the league's first international bout as they take on Rideau Valley Roller Girls Vixens.
Using the DNN interface, we can only present one pair of rosters at a time. Our alternating periods is a challenge for that system. If we don't manage to change up the rosters during the boutcast, you can reference them here.

Over on the men's side, the Pioneer Valley Dirty Dozen will be hoping that the seventh time is the charm when they go up against the New York Shock Exchange. NYSE's first game ever was a win over Pioneer Valley in April 2007, and since then, the Shock Exchange has never lost a bout, beating PVRD six times. However, over those three years, it's consistently been Pioneer Valley coming closest to stopping that streak, with a 69-46 final in 2008 and a 73-56 final in 2009. In the first 2010 meeting between PVRD and NYSE, Pioneer Valley became the only team to ever hold a halftime lead over New York, but New York finished strong to win 134-83.
A win for Pioneer Valley would leave both teams at 3-1; with only two games left in the season, it would make it very hard for Harm City Homicide (1-2) or Connecticut (0-3) to edge their way into the top two slots and qualify for the October 17 MDC championship bout. A win by NYSE would technically not mathematically guarantee them a top-two slot, but they'd have to suffer a highly unlikely total collapse in their final two games to miss it.
New York's core remains fairly stable, based around tough blocking from Vader and Abe Drinkin' and jamming from Rinkworm, Mothra and Jonathan R. 2010 addition Ladies Knight may be seeing some more turns with the jam star this time out, as primary jammer Teen Wolf suffered a broken collarbone in a recent bout against the Central Mass Malestrom and will be out of commission for awhile.
Pioneer Valley has traditionally been a short-rostered team, but has filled out its ranks this year and suits up a full 14 this time, including four 2010 additions in Grizzly Adam, Mongo, Damage and Mars Travolta. Their jamming charge is led by Dr. Spankenstein and Jurasskick Park and keyed by vets Davy Jones and The Rev in the pack. 1955, David Ketchum, is now skating under his government name after three years as Rollin' Redshirt.
Western Mass Destruction |
Vixens |
Ballistic Miss L #720 |
Surgical Strike 6:58 AM |
HOLYOKE, MA - On Saturday, July 24th, Pioneer Valley Roller Derby's Western Mass Destruction hosts Rideau Valley Roller Girls' Vixens in the first ever international matchup for Pioneer Valley. The two teams have not played a common opponent but the competition is expected to be fairly tight. The bout is part of an alternating period double header with the Dirty Dozen/New York Shock Exchange grudge match.
The Vixens have scheduled fewer travel bouts this year compared to 2009. They
are coming out of two consecutive wins against the Jerzey Derby Brigade and
the Utica Roller Girls in an overall 2 - 3 2010 travel season. Known for positional
pack play led by co-captain Semi Precious, the Vixens have a solid pack of
pivots and blockers especially Surgical Strike, Screaming Meanie Massacre, and
Big Block. Without star jammer Dee Dee Tee on the roster, expect the Vixens to rely on Soul Rekker, Sister Disaster, and Ripper A Part for a solid jammer stable.
Pioneer Valley Roller Derby's Western Mass Destruction will be meeting this team with a mix of veterans and rookies. This is the last full bout scheduled for the WMDs in 2010 with a 3 - 1 record to date and only one loss at home in the last two years.
Western Mass Destruction's deep jammer rotation features co-captain Clam Jammer, Chickadee Struction, and Bloodbath & Beyond -all known for great pack work in addtion to positive scoring efforts. Pivot Pink Panzer is back on the roster from the injured list. Expect to see her share the striped cover with Bitches Bruze and co-captain Ballistic Miss L. WMD debuts the Herminator and Love Tank adding solid blocking ability to the already strong packs.
