PVRD vs. CMRD @ Holyoke, MA
6/12/10
CMRD and PVRD have an interesting history. And you don't want to miss this next chapter..
Central Mass Roller Derby is PVRD's bastard stepchild, that PVRD raised like its own, and then set out into the world to fend for itself.. When former WMD, Hellen Bed left PVRD in 2008, she begot CMRD in the image of her beloved derby family. She incorporated both a men's and women's team.
Alone, misguided and burdened by the pangs of this burgeoning derby league, Hellen sought counsel from PVRD Board Members and Coaches. We helped our new neighbors to the east and pushed them until they were capable enough to grow and prosper without us.
Other skaters left PVRD and joined Hellen Bed, including WMD's Diesel n'Gin & Cat O'Mighty and The Dirty Dozen's Sideswipe. CMRD has continued to grow and add to their family. They are currently a powerhouse among young New England leagues.
This will be the first meeting of PVRD and its beloved brethren. Off the track, you'll see us catching up on old times. But on the track, all 4 teams will fight for dominance of West Central Mass.
The night will begin with the Dirty Dozen taking on the Mass Maelstrom. At the recent Men's Derby Conference in Northampton, Mass Maelstrom put on an impressive show; 7 skaters took the track against a mixed team of 14 skaters from all over the country.
They showed impressive tenacity that rivaled even the Dirty Dozen's. Even though CMRD's men recently lost to the CT Death Quads by 12 points, and the Dirty Dozen just overtook CT 138-53, CMRD will have a stronger roster than their last 2 bouts. They'll be looking for their first win. The Dirty Dozen is currently ranked second in the Men's Derby Coalition. Will they give it up to the new kids on the block or will they leave Mass Maelstrom crying in the corner?
Next up - Western Mass Destruction will aim to beat back the Petticoat Punishers. This past April, in their first ever public bout the Punishers trounced the Elm City Derby Damez. Some new WMD's even guest skated for Elm City that night. But WMD's aren't scared. They also just put up a great fight and nearly tied Baltimore's Female Trouble - the B-team of Charm City Roller Girls. This came on the coattails of their last minute win against Long Island. Will CMRD punish your ladies of mass destruction, or will the WMDs spank those Petticoat young-ins? This one is sure to be a nail-biter..
